Our Story
Kasane — the art of layering
Kasane (襲) is an old Japanese idea: you build a look by layering — a haori over a kimono, one season’s colour against another’s, old against new. Nothing is discarded; everything is folded into what comes next.
That is the whole idea behind Kimono Kasane.
We started it because most “kimono” sold online are costumes — thin, printed, made to be worn once for a photo. We wanted the opposite: pieces you would reach for on an ordinary Tuesday. A silk haori over jeans. A cotton yukata when it is too hot for anything else. A proper kimono for the day that asks for one.
So we keep the range small and choose by hand. Silk, cotton, linen — fabrics that behave, cuts that sit right, details finished the way they have been finished for a few hundred years. Most pieces are one of a kind; when they sell out, they do not come back.
We ship from the US with tracking, and we are a message away if something is not right.
Tradition, worn your way.
